Meet Our Staff

Murray Sykes SVC

Murray Sykes

Graduated from Sydney University in 1985.  After 2 years in mixed practice in Australia Murray was based in the UK where undertook further study to achieve the Certificate in Radiology from the Royal Veterinary College. After about 10 years in the UK he returned to OZ.  He has been working in Melbourne since 1997.  When not working, he enjoys walking and running and visiting his extended family most of whom are in and around Wagga.

Vanessa Gavens

Vanessa Gavens

Graduated from Melbourne University in 1980. Vanessa started out by working in rural Victoria, the UK and the island of Jamaica. On returning to Melbourne she set up her own practice which she ran successfully for many years. She sold her practice and now works part time here at Strathmore and holds tutorials and practical classes for the veterinary students at Melbourne University. When not working she can be found walking her dog, Hunter, and or her young grandson.

Michelle Goh

Michelle Goh

Graduated from Sydney University in 2016. She worked in Albury and Northern Melbourne before settling in at Strathmore. Michelle brings a depth of knowledge, a fresh approach and an attention to detail that keeps us all on our toes. In her spare time Michelle enjoys running and cycling and spending time with her cat Kye.

Grace Brown

Grace Brown

Grace is responsible for the day to day running of the practice and knows how to keep everyone working at their best. Grace shines the most when she is busy and when she isn’t organising us at the clinic, she can be found keeping up with her network of family and friends. She also enjoys showing and breeding miniature dachshunds.

Lauren Bottrell

Lauren Bottrell

Lauren brings to her job a wealth of knowledge and experience, having studied extensively prior to becoming a qualified vet nurse. Lauren relishes some of the challenges that are thrown our way for managing pet care and we always appreciate the input she provides. When not at work, she is very busy caring for her dog and rabbit.

Machelle Caruana

Machelle Caruana

Apart from Murray, “Mac” is the longest serving employee at Strathmore. She has been assisting in the development of the clinic since 2006 and was the original instructor for our puppy school. She now works part time and we really appreciate her willingness to step up and help with extra shifts at short notice. Mac has a myriad of animals in her care at home. She also enjoys running and always provides us with inspiration to keep fit.

Simone McGuire

Simone McGuire

Simone has been with us for almost 2 years and works part time. Prior to joining us, Simone volunteered with street clinics for animals in Nepal and Japan and it was this experience that whetted her appetite for working in the veterinary field. Simone combines a depth of knowledge with a calm considered approach that is of great value to the smooth running of our clinic. Her down time is spent cycling and swimming and spending time with her two pooches.

Grace Scriva

Grace Scriva

Grace is our newest recruit and is currently studying for her Cert IV in nursing. She is a self-motivated nurse who has seamlessly slotted in to work well with our small team. She keeps a clear head while multitasking and has an insatiable aim to be the best she can be. When not working she can be found sewing bow ties for dogs and spending time with her Bichon cross dog.
